Sheriff Mancuso Warns Citizens Of Scam in The Area
Whether it's during the holidays or it seems any time of the year. There is another scam being reported in the area according to Sheriff Tony Mancuso. It is being reported that victims are receiving a phone call telling them that a warrant has been issued for their arrest due to failure to appear for jury duty.
The caller claims to be a deputy with the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office or some other law enforcement agency and is instructing them to purchase a prepaid card to erase the warrant and would alleviate them from being arrested.
This is confirmed as a scam and you are warned to not fall victim to this. Sheriff Tony Mancuso alerts residents that the majority of the time a valid arrest warrant is served in person and not by telephone. However, there are circumstances where a law enforcement official may but will never ask for money or any other form of payment over the phone.
