After stressing over how much rain we were going to get from Tropical Storm Nicholas, it looks like the worst is behind us. The City of Lake Charles, Police Jury, and schools all closed yesterday out of caution before the storm hit.

Southwest Louisiana is now just dealing with more rain that is forecasted for the next few days so it's going to be a soggy one.

Today, a lot of businesses, schools, and offices are back open today.

The Calcasieu Parish Police Jury will reopen today. The Residential Solid Waste Convenience Centers in Lake Charles and Sulphur will be closed Wednesday, as they are closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays of each week. They will both reopen on Thursday, Sept. 16th.

The Calcasieu Public Transit System will run normally.

The City of Lake Charles administrative offices and services, including City Hall, will resume services, with regular business hours.

Trash and garbage routes will follow the schedule below:

  • Wednesday, September 15, 2021 – Tuesday’s route
  • Thursday and Friday routes will run as normally scheduled

Calcasieu Parish Schools are now reopened for students.

Remember that the roads are wet and slick so be careful while driving and look for standing water.  Please drive safe when going through the school zones now that all schools are reopened.

We are still in the heart of hurricane season so stay aware and prepared. We will keep you informed about any and all threats we may have to Southwest Louisiana.
