You may not have realized this, but polls will be open this Saturday, August 15 in Calcasieu Parish. Most folks were thinking the next time to vote would be in November when we cast our ballots for president, but that is not the case.

The polls will open at 7:00am, and on the ballot in Calcasieu Parish are three tax renewals. One is for the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Tax Renewal which will be voted on parish-wide, another is for the Niblett's Bluff Commission tax renewal for residents in the Vinton Louisiana area, and the third is for residents who live within the city limits of Sulphur.

If you are not registered to vote already, you are out of luck for this round of voting. The deadline for registering to vote in this election expired on July 25, 2020. The polls will close at 8:00pm and the results will be released just after that.

Now, if you want to vote in November and are not registered, you need to get to it quickly. Come November, not only will you pick the next President of the United States but in the Calcasieu Parish area there will be elections for a lot of different positions.

Some of the high profile positions up fro grabs are Calcasieu Parish District Attorney, City Court Judge, Ward 3 City Marshal, and Ward 4 City Marshal.
