Overnight rain leaves streets still flooded in Lake Charles
One thing about Lake Charles that I know for a fact is when it rains, it literally pours. Overnight we were dealt heavy thunderstorms and lightning along with heavy patches of showers through out the night. As a matter of fact, I believe that it rained literally all night in the city.
However, when it rains in our city, it occasionally last and stands around for hours and sometimes days. While it didn't flood last night. If you look at the pictures, you will see that the rain is still standing even 4 hours after it rained in Lake Charles. This is what we had to deal with when it flooded here back in May. The city is a low lying area and it doesn't take long before the streets are flooded and the vehicles are usually left stranded on the side of the roads or even worse someone's home is lost. I have talked about this several times and while I have no idea on how to even get the ball rolling as far as how to alleviate this problem in the city. One thing I do know is that something needs to be done.
We have heard a lot about the drainage situation, but as you can see from the picture. While it is not very high, it is high enough to where it could literally cause damage or harm to someone out there who is potentially walking close by or even riding a bike.
Lake Charles we have a problem and hopefully the request for the disaster relief that is needed will eventually be given to us with no issues or repercussions from the powers that be.
