Why would an Olympic team "throw a game?". Here's the key to that lock:

The Badminton doubles players are accused of trying to lose for a more favorable seed in the finals. According to USAA  The Badminton World Federation confirms it has disqualified eight female
badminton players from China, South Korea and Indonesia from the Olympics doubles competition for trying to lose matches to receive a more favorable draw. In other words, they threw it to play easier teams. Not exactly the "Olympic spirit". "Hey guys, let's try and be just good enough to get by...are you with me?"

The federation found the players guilty of “not using one’s
best efforts to win a match” and “conducting oneself in a manner that is clearly
abusive or detrimental to the sport” in matches Tuesday night.
