On December 20th, an explosion and fire triggered a 'shelter in place' for much of the area. The folks at Axiall are still investigating the incident, but here is there preliminary 7 day report.

According to the report, there were three chemicals released during the accident: dichloroethane, vinyl chloride and hydrochloric acid, but on site air monitors did not detect the presence of any chemicals 'off site.'

Smoke enveloped the area for over two hours and 20 drivers were treated for respitory problems following the accident.

Axiall says the investigation is continuing and a comprehensive report will be out in the coming weeks.
