Effective today at sunset the State Department of Wildlife and Fisheries is closing Calcasieu Lake to oyster harvesting. The biologists said the oysters in the lake have been in bad shape.  Oystering was closed in the west cove of Cameron Parish back on January 24th, the season opened on November first.

Already each boat was limited to seven sacks of oysters per day.  The state says the oyster population has been in decline for several years and continued commercial fishing may endanger whatever population is left.

Notorious as an aphrodisiac, oysters are high in zinc and have a reputation for being great for love and fertility.

Happy Valentines Day.
