The band was formed in San Francisco, California in 1979. They originally formed under the name Stereo and changed it to Ranger in 1980. However, a country band called The Rangers filed a copyright claim against the band so they changed their band name to Night Ranger in 1982. Over their 43 year career, the band has sold more than 17 million records worldwide and played more than 3,500 live shows.
