The Myrtles Plantation in St. Francisville, often called "America’s Most Haunted House," has long been a magnet for ghost hunters and paranormal enthusiasts.

A recent visit by a Lafayette, Louisiana family resulted in a photograph that may be one of the most compelling pieces of evidence yet of supernatural activity at this storied site.

A Tour to Remember

The Lancon family from Lafayette decided to spend the day touring the Myrtles Plantation, a location steeped in mystery and ghostly lore.

Like many visitors, they eagerly snapped photos as their guide recounted the plantation’s tragic history, including the tale of Chloe, a former enslaved woman often associated with hauntings on the property.

The Myrtles is said to house the spirits of at least 12 former inhabitants, including the Winter family and other tragic figures tied to its past.

The plantation’s chilling stories, from mysterious deaths to ghostly apparitions, set the tone for the Lancon family’s visit.

The Haunting Discovery

After returning home to Lafayette, Jamie Lancon revisited the photos from their trip. That’s when she noticed something strange.

In one photo, taken in the Gentleman’s Parlor, a spectral figure appeared—a translucent image resembling a young girl standing near the doorway to the adjacent Card Room.

This discovery was particularly eerie because the Card Room contains a portrait of Kate Winter, a three-year-old who tragically died of typhoid fever.

Upon closer inspection, the ghostly figure bore a striking resemblance to Kate’s portrait.

The Picture That Has Everyone Talking

Jamie shared the photo with The Myrtles Plantation staff, who confirmed that no one else was present in the room when the picture was taken.

The figure’s placement—seemingly floating in the air—further fueled speculation. Could this be the ghost of Kate Winter, forever tied to the plantation where she spent her brief life?

Even skeptics admit the image is unsettling. Attempts to explain the figure as a reflection or trick of the light have fallen short, leaving many to wonder: is this the most compelling ghost photo ever captured at The Myrtles?

Even though the image gets blurry the more it's zoomed in, you can still see the resemblance between the ghostly image on the left and the portrait of Kate Winter on the right.

In the photo below we brightened the face of "Kate" floating above Jamie's head.

We say "floating" because if she's not, then there's a 7ft tall little girl walking around The Myrtles.

Is The Myrtles Plantation Really Haunted?

The Myrtles Plantation is known as America's most haunted house.

Sure, it could be all a bunch of bull cooked up for media hype and tourism dollars but, if you've ever been there you can tell from the minute you step out of your car that things are just not...normal.

Below are a few more photos we cropped to hopefully make it easier to see "Kate" floating around the room.

We sent the General Manager of The Myrtles Plantation an email asking about the layout of the room to see if there might be any shelves or anything that could possibly explain the image in the photo.

Her answer only made things even more interesting.

Your photo of Kate is amazing! Kate is standing in the doorway between the Gentleman’s Parlor and the Card Room. This is striking because Kate’s portrait hangs behind her in the Card Room.
