We have talked about the 'Carrying On A Dream Dr. Martin Luther King Jr Exhibit' that was coming to the area. I was excited as to any time we are able to have something as significant as this coming to the area. It truly is something for all to see. I have had the chance to visit his home and church in Atlanta. I have also had the chance to tour the National Civil Rights Museum that was built around the Lorraine Motel, the infamous location of the murder of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

To hear that we would be getting something that is also a reminder of the legendary peacemaker as well as a reminder of how far we still have left to come was something I couldn't miss. I stopped by the Lake Charles Civic Center today and inside was the very hearse that in 1968 carried the body of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. The moment I saw it, there was a moment of anger, disappointment, and an out-of-body experience that I can't really describe.

There was also an array of pictures including the famous picture taken from the scene of the crime of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr where he is surrounded by Reverend Jesse Jackson and others. But aside from just feeling sad and slightly overwhelmed a smile was brought to my face as there was a video on television where many people were speaking very highly of Dr. King. With a lineup of people like Reverend Al Sharpton, Former Atlanta Mayor Andrew Young, Actor Nick Cannon and others all giving their most memorable moments during their lives and the influence Dr. Martin Luther King Jr had on them.

The event is free and will be here until Thursday, February 10. While it's not very long, The film is truly something to watch and shouts out to Alpha Phi Alpha the fraternity of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr along with other sponsors for making this possible here in Lake Charles.
