McNeese To Announce Gary Goff As New Head Football Coach Monday At Noon
It appears that the McNeese Athletic Department has found their next head football coach after former coach Frank Wilson left the school to go to LSU.
It has been announced that the McNeese Athletic Department and Athletic Director Heath Schroyer will hold a press conference today, December 20th at Noon to name the University's next head football coach.
The search was on after football coach Frank Wilson resigned from the program to join Brian Kelly as a coach for the LSU Tigers.
So who will be the new head coach? Matthew Bonnette, the Associate AD for Communications and Digital Media announced that Gary Goff will be the next head football coach for the pokes and will be introduced today at noon by Athletic Director Heath Schroyer.
Bonnette said,
Goff recently completed a three-year, two-season stint at Valdosta State where he helped lead his team to this year's NCAA Division II National Championship game. In his two seasons leading his alma mater, Goff compiled a 22-3 overall record and 14-1 in Gulf South Conference play. His teams also won 14 of their 15 home games during his time. Valdosta State did not compete in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Coach Goff may be just what the Cowboys program needs as he has proven to be a winner and that is exactly what McNeese fans are looking for, for the program to get back to the dynasty it once was. Bonnette added,
Over the past three seasons - two at Valdosta and in 2018 at Tiffin University where he coached from 2011-19, Goff recorded a 31-6 record for an .861 winning percentage.
That mark over those three years ranks him 10th among all head coaches in Division I (FBS an FCS) and Division II,
and compiling a better three-year winning percentage over such coaches as Dabo Swinney (Clemson), Brian Kelly (Notre Dame now LSU), Lincoln Riley (Oklahoma now USC), and Mario Cristobal (Oregon now Miami), just to name a few.
The new head coach for McNeese Gary Goff landed in Lake Charles last night escorted by Athletic Director Heath Schroyer. and met at the plane by McNeese State University President Dr. Burkel. Check it out below.
The press conference to announce the new head coach will be at Noon today, December 20th, and will be held in the End Zone Room located on the second floor of the Jack Doland Field House.
