McNeese State will open its Southland Conference football season on Saturday as Southeastern Louisiana will come into Cowboy Stadium.

The Cowboys are now 1-1 on the year after dropping Sioux Falls 31-17 last Saturday. McNeese had opened its season two weeks ago on the road against Kansas, bowing by a 42-24 score.

The Lions are 1-2 with losses to Tulane (47-33) and Southern Miss (52-6) and a victory over Savannah State (63-6).

The game, which will have a 7 p.m. start, is one of two league encounters that will go on that day. Northwestern State will be at Nicholls State in a SLC TV afternoon contest.

Last week Sam Houston State and Central Arkansas played the first league game, the Bearkats claiming a 31-10 victory. The Bearkats are the only undefeated team in the conference.

McNeese has won the last five meetings with the Lions and holds a 21-15 edge in the series that includes a 15-5 mark at home. A year ago the Cowboys posted a 13-10 victory in Hammond with Josh Lewis booting a game winning 52 yard field goal as time ran out.

Non-conference games for the league this week will have Sam Houston playing at New Mexico, Texas State at SFA and Central Arkansas at Arkansas State.
