McNeese Announces Their 2025 Non-Conference Football Games

LAKE CHARLES, LOUISIANA: McNeese has announced its four non-conference football games for the 2025 season. The Southland Conference will release the league slate after the holidays.

The Cowboys will open up at home on August 30 against Louisiana Christian, formerly Louisiana College, in the first matchup since the 1966 season.

Following the opener, the Cowboys will travel east on I-10 to renew their long-time rivalry with Louisiana-Lafayette on September 6 then will host Weber State on September 13.

McNeese will close out the non-conference portion of the schedule on September 20 when it visits Utah State for its second matchup of the season against an FBS team. This is just the second time for McNeese to have two FBS schools on the schedule (2010 at Missouri and at LSU).

Taking a look at the opponent series:

Playing for the first time since 1966, McNeese and Louisiana Christian renew a series that began in 1945, McNeese’s second season to field a football program. The teams played every season from 1951-66 with five of those years as Gulf States Conference members. McNeese holds a 15-2 lead over the Wildcats, who are a member of the NAIA Sooner Athletic Conference and posted a 4-7 record this past season.

The Cowboys and Cajuns will meet up for the 39th time in history and the first since the 2016 season. McNeese leads the all-time series 20-16-2 and the series is knotted up at 3-3-2 since the Cajuns moved up to the higher level in 1982.

The Cajuns played in this year’s Sun Belt Conference championship and posted a 10-3 record. They’ll meet up against TCU in the Isleta New Mexico Bowl on December 28.

McNeese and Weber State will be playing for the second straight year and for the sixth time overall. The Cowboys upset the 25th-ranked Wildcats, 28-26, this past season in Ogden. The two last played in Lake Charles back in 2013, a 43-6 McNeese win. The Cowboys lead the overall series 4-1 and have won four straight games.

Weber State is a member of the strong Big Sky Conference and finished the season 4-8 in 2024 after starting out strong that included a win over Montana.

The Cowboys and Utah State will be playing for the first time. The Aggies are a member of the Mountain West Conference and posted a 4-8 season in 2024.
