There will be a little fun coming back for the families as soon as we can clear things up with all of this rain that we are expecting this week. Mallard Junction Park 599 August Street in Lake Charles will reopen to the public tomorrow, September 29.

It's hard to believe that the park has been closed since August 2020 due to damage caused by Hurricane Laura and Delta. Let's bring on the picnics and the family outings and the nice walks.

The hours will be 8 a.m.- 11 p.m daily for you to come through. If you would like more information on all things Mallard Junction or other parks in the parish, visit www.calcasieuparish.gov/parks.

LOOK: Here are the best lake towns to live in

Many of the included towns jump out at the casual observer as popular summer-rental spots--the Ozarks' Branson, Missouri, or Arizona's Lake Havasu--it might surprise you to dive deeper into some quality-of-life offerings beyond the beach and vacation homes. You'll likely pick up some knowledge from a wide range of Americana: one of the last remaining 1950s-style drive-ins in the Midwest; a Florida town that started as a Civil War veteran retirement area; an island boasting some of the country's top public schools and wealth-earners right in the middle of a lake between Seattle and Bellevue; and even a California town containing much more than Johnny Cash's prison blues.
