Low Income Households Will Be Able To Get Financial Assistance With Water and Wastewater Bill
With the pandemic, there are many who have upped their showers and things like that in order to really be able to make sure that they are as safe and healthy as possible. With the upswing of showers and more water being used, there is some good news that could be coming your way.
Beginning Monday, April 4 all low-income households in Calcasieu Parish will be able to apply for financial assistance with their water and wastewater bill expenses that have been accrued lately. This will all be possible through Low-Income Household Water Assistance Program (LiHWAP)
The program is being offered by LiHWAP to help provide emergency water and wastewater payment for families to assist with them not being forced to choose between paying for their water and wastewater bill or food, housing, and medicine.
Residents who have applied for LiHEAP within the past six months will be eligible for LiHWAP. However, you will need to provide current water or wastewater bill. This will be based on a resident's total income and those who are over 60 years of age and households with children under 5 years old and residents with disabilities will be given priority.
There will be three phases that will be implemented by LiHWAP
- Phase 1 will focus on households that need immediate restoration of services. The application period for this phase will open on Monday, April 4.
- Phase 2 will focus on households that require immediate payment of past-due bills and payment plans to prevent disconnection of water services. The application period for this phase will open on Monday, May 2.
- Phase 3 will focus on households seeking assistance with current bills. The application period for this phase will begin on Monday, June 6.
