In Louisiana, as long as you are allowed to own a firearm, you can carry said weapon on your hip or on your shoulder in public all you want. That is known as open carry, sort of like the cowboys did back in the day. However, if you want to cover it under a shirt or conceal it in any type of way, the state of Louisiana requires you to obtain a concealed carry permit. This permit is only obtained after a concealed carry class and then fingerprints and information are taken and turned in to the state.

Yesterday, the Louisiana House joined the Senate with voting to remove the need to have a permit in order to carry a concealed weapon. The next steps are to agree on the actual final version of either bill being presented. Once agreed upon, the bill heads to Governor Edwards.

The bills state that anyone 21 or older who is allowed to own a firearm will be allowed to conceal a handgun without the need to obtain a permit. The House voted in favor of the bill 73-28. Governor Edwards has already voiced his opinion on the subject and has said he intends to veto the measure once it reaches his desk.
