A Louisiana resident, who wants to remain anonymous, just got a HUGE pay day from a deceased relative's oil drilling royalties.

He or she must think that other living relatives would feel entitled to a cut too.  That's pretty greedy not to share it with your family.  Especially seeing that it's money you didn't earn...maybe that's just me.

The Louisiana Department of the Treasury said this is the largest return given out from the Unclaimed Property Program in its history.

Louisiana State Treasurer John Schroder says:

This definitely was a special case, because most of our claims fall somewhere in the $900 range...even if you don’t find millions, it’s worth your time to see if there is money out there waiting for you. - John Schroder

Schroder goes on to say that more people than ever are now collecting their unclaimed money because of Louisiana's online recovery system.

The State Treasury has already returned $28.7 million to 38,398 Louisiana residents this year. But check this stat out, the state has $858 million in unclaimed property!
