So, how do they come up with these kind of statistics? The report comes from the United Health Foundation. They look at things like obesity, tobacco use, and inactivity. Some of the states biggest health issues are children in poverty and a "high prevalence" of mental distress.

Louisiana's average of mental health care providers is higher than the national average with 271.9 providers to every 100,000 people. The national average is around 234.7 providers for every 100,000 people.

On a positive note, our HPV immunization ranks higher than the national average as well.

Hawaii reclaimed the healthiest state spot after dropping to number two in 2017.
