Louisiana Legend Joe Burrow Returns to the Super Dome
There aren't too many people that will argue the fact that the 2019 LSU Tigers Football team is in the argument of one of the best college football teams in the history of college football. It certainly was a dream season. The 2019 Tigers ended a perfect season 15-0, and National Champions.
Leading that team as quarterback was an Ohio State transfer, Redshirt Junior, Joe Burrow. But obviously, the talent wasn't limited to just Burrow. That 2019 squad was LOADED with talent, with players like WR Ja'Marr Chase, who is a current NFL teammate of Burrow's with the Cinncinnati Bengals, WR Jordan Jefferson, currently playing for the Minnessota Vikings. Other standouts include Grant Delpit, Derek Stingley, & Clyde Edwards-Helaire, all of whom are playing in the NFL.
Quarteback Busts
As many quarterbacks will tell you, success in college doesn't always translate into success in the NFL. Unfortunate examples include Quincy Carter, Ryan Leaf, and JaMarcus Russell. Even really good guys like Heisman winners Tim Tebow and Danny Weurfel were amazing college QB's whose talents didn't transfer to the NFL.
And though Burrow hasn't seen the success with the Bengals that he enjoyed at LSU, it's widely recognized he doesn't have the front line needed to protect him. He was sacked 13 times in the first two games of the season. He was sacked 6 times in the loss against the Cowboys. Not a lot of opportunities to create plays and build stats when you're laying on your back in the middle of the field.
This Sunday the 2-3 Cincinnati Bengals come to the Super Dome to face the 2-3 New Orleans Saints in a noon contest, bringing Louisiana's adopted son back to the bayou state. Man, would really love to have that Burreaux name on the back of a black and gold jersey.
