Louisiana Attorney General Jeff Landry talks about the state joining a multi-state suit challenging the latest California gun control measures.

Other states involved with the suit before the federal Ninth Circuit Appeals Court are Arizona, Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Georgia, Idaho, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Ohio, Oklahoma, South Dakota, South Carolina, Texas, Utah, West Virginia, and Wyoming. The suit a challenges California’s what the state's AGs say is an unconstitutional ban on readily available and common magazines for firearms.

"There are many good Republican attorney generals around the country and many of us work collectively as a pushback against against federal intrusion or when states, when states like California try to trample on our rights, it's California and it's certainly not indicative of the rest of the country and they do some crazy things and this case is exactly that," says Landry, "They've basically made the possession of magazines capable of holding more than ten rounds a crime."

The court fight over the California legislation has been going on since the original bill passed in 2016. In 2017 the law was blocked by a federal district court ruling, but following a state appeal, the Ninth Circuit will rehear the case.

"Everyone glosses over the fact thaat some of California's major cities have some of the highest crime rates in the country," Landry continues, "And they seem to think that the problem is magazine capacity. Well, the magazines aren't the ones committing the crimes.

"It's part of what you see us doing around the country, attorneys general joining together, to help them...bring litigation (against legislation) that could affect our citizens."
