If you've never given it a shot, according to a new article from Reader's Digest it works. It only takes a minute to keep your food fresh in the refrigerator, try putting a paper towel in your vegetable drawer.

The majority of fruits and vegetables leak moisture with time, and the additional water speeds up the deterioration process. A dry paper towel, however, absorbs the moisture and keeps everything fresh much longer.

Simply insert one or two paper towels in the drawer's bottom and change them out whenever you buy fresh items. It also serves to line the drawers.

Try it the next time you open a large bag of spinach or lettuce, it will keep the bag from getting slimy at the bottom and wasting some food in the bags.
