Louisiana Dog Sets Guinness Record for Amazing Tongue
We love our dogs. They bring us unconditional love and many years of pure joy. Sometime, they get some extra special attention for doing something amazing. In the case of Zoey, from Metairie, Louisiana, she is now in the Guinness Book of World Records.
Zoey is a beloved Labrador/German Shepherd mix and she can give you a monster kiss with her record-breaking tongue. Zoey is now listed in the record book for having the longest tongue on a living dog.
When Was This Amazing Tongue Discovered?
Owners Sadie and Drew Williams noticed she had a pretty long licker when they got her when she was just 6 weeks old. They always thought she would grow into her tongue.
Her tongue is a whopping 12.7 cm (5 in) long. That's longer than a bic pen or a soda can! And that’s for the part of her tongue that sticks out of her mouth. I bet if you measured from all the way in her mouth, it might be double that size.
Zoey loves to be outside chasing squirrels or playing fetch with tennis balls. She also loves going for swims in any lakes or ponds her human parents can find. She also likes going for rides in the car. But she will always be panting with that long tongue dangling out. Drew also told the Guinness folks people will come up to pet her while they are out for a walk and he always warns them ahead of time, ”Hey, she’s friendly but she might slobber on you.”
Zoey gets this attention just a few months after an English Setter from Arizona claimed the crown with a tongue measuring 9.49 centimeters or just under 4 inches.
