California Doctor Faces Prison in Louisiana Abortion Case
(KHLA - Lake Charles, Louisiana) - According to court filings filed this month, Louisiana is pursuing a criminal case against another out-of-state physician who is suspected of mailing abortion drugs to a patient in the Bayou State.
According to the fillings, pills are the most popular method of obtaining abortions in the United States and are a key factor in the increase in abortions that occurred last year despite the laws prohibiting it.

This case is just one more front in the expanding legal dispute between conservative and liberal states over the prescription of abortion drugs through telemedicine and its shipment to patients.
Louisiana set up abortion bans that took effect after the U.S. Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in 2022 and allowed the state to enforce violations of those bans from out-of-state doctors.

KPLC is reporting that Dr. Remy Coeytaux, a California doctor, is the physician in question and a warrant has been sent for her arrest.
She is accused of mailing abortion drugs to a Louisiana woman and her boyfriend in 2023.
If convicted, she could face up to 15 years in prison and $200,000 in fines. But that's not it. In July, a Texas man filed a complaint against Coeytaux in federal court, alleging that the doctor unlawfully gave his girlfriend abortion medication.
