Shreveport's city council will vote next week on a resolution that would declare a State of Emergency due to crime. The measure was introduced by Councilman James Green. His district includes the Mooretown neighborhood- which has had a recent spike in violent crime.

Green points to crime stats for the City of Shreveport in the last 18 months, which includes the following reports of violence in District F:

  • 19 homicides
  • 54 rapes
  • 121 persons robbed
  • 17 businesses robbed
  • 198 aggravated batteries
  • 233 aggravated assaults
  • 539 residential burglaries
  • 164 business burglaries
  • 4 purses snatched
  • 485 instances of shoplifting
  • 91 thefts from businesses
  • 526 thefts from residences
  • 207 automobiles accessories theft
  • 725 packages or other items were taken from automobiles
  • 277 automobiles stolen
  • 381 reports of general theft

If approved, the resolution would give increased authority of the Chief of Shreveport Police to increase patrols in the trouble areas.
