LC Man Arrested for Making Money — Literally
While we all like to make money, it becomes illegal when you literally make your own money and that's why Derrick Monk of Lake Charles is dressed in orange these days. Actually, Monk has not been charged with making the counterfeit money, just with spending it.
It seems that Mr. Monk has been spreading the funny money at businesses in and around the Lake Charles area and, wouldn't you know it, he got caught and was arrested on charges of monetary instrument abuse and possession of drug paraphernalia charges, according to Kim Myers, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Office spokeswoman.
"On July 28, the CAT Team (Combined Anti-Drug Task Force) observed Monk leaving a business on McNeese Street in Lake Charles and detained him on a warrant from Vinton Police Department in reference to counterfeit money," Myers said. During further investigation it was learned that Monk was in possession of several counterfeit notes, as well as drug paraphernalia."
Monk's bond is still pending and the investigation continues with additional arrest possible in the case.
