Lake Charles OMV and Others Open up to Public Today

A total of 11 offices of the Louisiana Department of Motor Vehicles will open today across the state.

Not all the Department of Motor Vehicles offices are opening up, only the ones listed below:

• Alexandria
• Baton Rouge - Independence Boulevard
• Harvey
• Houma
• Lafayette
• Lake Charles
• Livingston
• Mandeville
• Monroe
• New Orleans - Veterans Highway
• Shreveport

These offices will only be offering partial services during the Phase One reopening, these services include:

• Issuance/renewal of a driver’s license and/or ID cards
• Ordering duplicate title
• Renewing vehicle registration
• Title transfers

Additional services are available at the department's website portal.

It's advised that you check the department's website for any flags, blocks, suspensions, or disqualifications on your license before you go up to the office for service. Items like these will need to be cleared up or fines paid before you can proceed with a new service.

The Department of Motor Vehicles will be following the guidelines of the Phase One reopening protocol. Each office will only allow 25% of its capacity in the building at one time. Make sure and bring a mask because you will be asked to wear one and practice social distancing while doing business in the offices.

I would expect that you will encounter long lines and wait times, so be prepared to clear your schedule if you have business you need to take care of that can't wait.
