Lake Area Summer Camps
The school bells will ring for the final time this year in a matter of weeks! Calcasieu Parish students report for the last day on May 24th, and classes in the surrounding parishes end about that time, too. So what will you do with the little munchkins once they don't have to get up and go learn for a couple months? Here's a list of non-profit camps that will keep them occupied!
I'm sure there are lots more out there, too! Let me know about any in your area.
City of Lake Charles Camps
You can choose from nine community-based sites throughout the city where your child can have loads of fun participating in various activities like swimming, skating, movies, and field trips. The camps are open for ages six through twelve. Most begin at 8AM and last until you can pick them up after work at 5:30PM starting June 4. You must fill out a registration packet and return it to the location your child will attend.
SOWELA Summer Camps
From culinary skills to aviation to fusion welding, your child can learn all sorts of skills and have a great time at the Lake Charles, Deridder, or Jennings SOWELA campus this summer. Most of their camps last a week; some last three days. Each camp has a different fee schedule. Check the website for more information and registration.
CYT Lake Charles
CYT, Christian Youth Theater, of Lake Charles is hosting their annual summer camp July 16 through July 20. The week-long day camp offers children 4 to 12 classes in drama, crafts, music, and finishes up with a showcase for family and friends. Space is limited! Enroll now if your little one would like to participate.
McNeese Kids College
Registration is open now for McNeese Kids College which offers children in grades 1 through 8 so many fantastic fun learning opportunities all summer long! The 11-week "A STEAM Adventure" program begins on May 28 with projects and field trips for students interested in engineering, nature, forensics, airplanes and rockets, physical science, chemistry and more! The day classes begin at 8AM and end at 5PM Monday through Friday, and early drop-off/late pick-up is available. You and your child can choose the activities and weeks he or she would like to participate. A discount is being offered for registration prior to April 30th.
McNeese Sports Camps
Your child can learn to play like the Pokes at a variety of sports summer camps offered through the McNeese Athletic Department. Football, volleyball, soccer, baseball, and softball players and coaching staff will all help your little athlete improve their game. Visit their website for a list of dates, times, and registration.
