Kiwanis Coats for Kids Project Sets Goal of 1,500 Coats
For 30 years now, the Lake Charles Kiwanis Club has sponsored their annual coat drive called "Coats for Kids." The program has a very simple goal, and that is to provide winter coats for area kids who are living below the poverty level. Last year, the Kiwanis distributed over 1,000 coats to area families. This year, they'd like to do even more.
I was talking to my friend, Steve Ek, the other day. Steve was telling me how the civic group distributed over 1,000 coats last yea, and he told me that he would love to see the drive provide 1,500 coats this year. I thought, "What can we do to help make that happen?" It's a great goal, don't you think?
I'm a relative newcomer when it comes to "Coats for Kids", but I feel very strongly about this great project, and I'd love to help the Kiwanis reach their goal again this year. I can't make it happen, but you can. If you have any coat to donate, it will help reach the goal of 1,500 coats. They don't have to be new coats, as long as they are still wearable.
This is the big drive for the Lake Charles Kiwanis, and it's easy to see how much they care about the project. The Lake Charles Kiwanis help out several local charities, including the Potter House, Harbor House, Lord's Place, Boy's Village, Oasis Women's Shelter, CPSB Title 10 Assistance to Homeless Children, Soloman's Porch, Abraham's Tent, Car3e Help of Sulphur, and DeWanna's Closet.
