Summer is certainly in full swing.

We are all looking for ways to stay cool this summer and many are pushing their AC units to the limit.

One person on Facebook recently posted a photo on social media showing how he keeps his AC unit "cool" during the hottest hours of the day.

A beach-like umbrella is hoisted above the unit outdoors and this keeps it in the shade during the day.

He says that a fence post was used to secure the umbrella into the ground. Keeping the unit in the shade allows the unit to be much more efficient during the day.

While some on social media applaud this idea, others are questioning if this is safe.

As you can see below, there is plenty of space between the unit and the umbrella, thus air flow does not appear to be restricted.

Still, there is the threat of the umbrella falling over onto the unit, and that's where the concern comes into play here.

The person who posted this idea to keep his AC unit cool does note that he closes the umbrella at night, thus it is over the unit while all are tucked away.

I won't tell you if this is a good or bad idea, but many are looking for ways to battle the heat this summer, and I have personally seen others do likewise.
