This past Monday morning, the Lake Charles Police Department responded to WalMart on Highway 14. While Officers were responding to that original call, 911 received a second call from the area stating that the theft suspect had hijacked a WalMart employee in the parking lot.

The suspect then fled the location in the victim’s vehicle, but later lost control at Highway 397 and Joe Spears Road. After crashing the stolen vehicle, the suspect fled on foot and even tried to evade capture by jumping into a pond. Well, Lake Charles Police K-9 Barry and Corporal Michael Treadway tracked the suspect to the pond where K-9 Barry apprehended the suspect in the water. During the apprehension, the suspect attempted to get away from the K-9 by forcing his arm under water where the K-9 loosened his bite.  Lake Charles Police Officers were able to take the suspect into custody by use of a boat.

The suspect was transported to a local hospital for treatment of the K-9 bite.  While receiving medical treatment, the suspect refused to give his name. However, officers were able to learn the suspect’s identity during booking.
