Pop legend Johnny Mathis is coming to Lake Charles this weekend to serenade his fans.
John Royce Mathis was born on September 30, 1935, in Gilmer, TX. His family moved to San Francisco, CA when he was young. Johnny's father was a musician and pianist. He worked in vaudeville, which is a theatrical variety entertainment show. When he saw Johnny's talent he bought him his first piano and encouraged him to learn how to play Mathis was discovered by a club owner named Helen Noga in 1955. She became his manager and help him land his first record deal with Columbia Records. And the rest his history.
Johnny Mathis has since recorded over 80 albums and sold millions of records worldwide. During his extensive career, he has had 3 songs inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame, achieved 50 Hits on Billboard’s Adult Contemporary Chart, and still ranks as the all-time #6 album artist in the history of Billboard’s pop album charts. He has received 5 Grammy Nominations, and in 2003 he was given the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences.
