Shots Have Been Fired in Vicinity of Former President Donald Trump’s Golf Club

WHO FIRED THE SHOTS?

Officials with local news organizations in Florida are saying now that it was the Secret Service who fired the shots as they say what they thought was a threat because they say they saw a man who was a threat because he was believed to be carrying an AK-47 outside out of Trump International Golf Course.

This golfing session was NOT on any public release. President Donald Trump told Fox News' Bret Baier that he is fine, and the Secret Service did their job and they did a great job. We are waiting for the West Palm Beach Police Department to give a press conference as soon as they can provide more details.

The campaign of former President Donald Trump says he is safe after shots were fired in his vicinity according to Fox News just before 2 p.m. Eastern, 1 p.m. Central. Details continue to trickle in on what happened today. Obviously an investigation has already been started to understand the details of what happened today, who was responsible, and how to identify who the perpetrator was.

According to sources on Twitter, some weapon was found in bushes at the golf club.

WHAT DO WE KNOW RIGHT NOW?

The Associated Press is now saying that a Secret Service Agent did open fire on someone:

Local officials in Florida are saying they do have a suspect in custody. An AK-47 was allegedly dropped in some bushes. Officials had a description of the car that was leaving the golf course, and the vehicle was stopped.

According to local media, the shots were fired near the area of the fifth hole on Trump's golf course which is closest to where a vehicle could leave.

Fox News is reporting, via Sean Hannity, is reporting that a drone was being used to help find the person responsible for firing the shots. In addition Hannity, he says Erik Trump told him Donald Trump was only about 200 yards away from the area where the suspect allegedly fled.

The U.S. Secret Service has confirmed the incident, and the Trump Campaign Communications head Steven Cheung has said

President Trump is safe following gunshots in his vicinity. No further details at this time.

According to CNN, the former President was playing golf at Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach when the situation began to unfold. After the shots were heard, someone close to the situation said the golf course was put on lockdown. We are expecting more details to be released soon on what happened.

Trump had returned to Florida this weekend from a West Coast swing that included a Friday night rally in Las Vegas and a Utah fundraiser.

The campaign did not immediately provide any additional details.

No injuries were reported, according to a spokesperson for the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office in Florida.

A law enforcement official who spoke on condition of anonymity to discuss an ongoing investigation said officials were trying to determine whether the shots were fired near Trump’s West Palm Beach golf course or on the grounds. The official was not authorized to speak publicly and spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity.
