A national discount appliance and furniture store has announced that it is closing all its locations, including one in Lafayette, Louisiana.

According to documents filed in the U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Delaware, American Freight will be closing all of its locations after a move by the parent company, Franchise Group, to file bankruptcy protection.

In addition to the Lafayette location, American Freight has three other Louisiana locations. All total, here are the four stores across the Bayou State:

  • 8560 Florida Blvd., Baton Rouge
  • 10076 Crossing Way, Denham Springs
  • 2001 NW Evangeline Thruway, Lafayette
  • 3409 North I-10 Service Road, Metairie

Nationwide, there are 344 company-owned stores and 13 that are franchised.

Why is American Freight closing all of its stores?

The answer can be found in the following statement by David Orlofsky, chief restricting officer for Franchise Group:

The debtors concluded that American Freight’s limited amount of profitable store locations could not support the rightsizing of its business through a plan of reorganization.

What other companies does Franchise Group own?

Franchise Group is also the parent company of Buddy's Home Furnishings, Pet Supplies Plus, and The Vitamin Shoppe.

Andrew Laurence, president and CEO of Franchise Group said that his company will now focus on the three remaining businesses.

“Each of these businesses has a demonstrated value proposition and provides great products and services to customers, which they will continue to do seamlessly during this process,” said Laurence.

When will American Freight stores officially close?

That information has not been made public as of yet but we do know closing sales were expected to begin on November 5th.
