Louisiana Teacher Threatens To Shoot Third Grade Students
Tuesday was a pivotal day at a charter school in Louisiana after one of their teachers was arrested for allegedly making threatening comments to students the week before according to KTVE/KARD.
Earlier this month, a 14-year-old student named Colt Gray allegedly brought a semi-automatic AR-15-style rifle to Apalachee High School and shot up the school. When the shooting ended four people were dead and nine people were injured. Those who lost their lives were the following people:
Richard Aspinwall, a 39-year-old math teacher at the school
Cristina Irimie, a 53-year-old math teacher at the school
Mason Schermerhorn, a 14-year-old student at the school
Christian Angulo, a 14-year-old student at the school
The boy's father, Colin Gray, was arrested after buying the gun for his son even after admitting the boy was troubled and in need of counseling. CNN has reported there have been 46 school shootings in the U.S. this year. You know children are not immune to hearing about these terrifying shootings.
Fast forward to last week in Union Parish at a charter school in Downsville when a physical education teacher allegedly threatened to shoot up some third graders in one of his P.E. classes. He told sheriff's officials that at the time of the comments he made, he was feeling "overwhelmed".
The 70-year-old teacher, Robert Mitcham, was arrested Tuesday, September 10 on a terrorizing charge, and his bond was set at $15,000.
What Did the Teacher Say to Students?
After interviews with students, law enforcement officials say Mitcham allegedly told the thrid-grade students, that he
had bullets for his gun and he would bring it to the school and shoot.....(adding that) some of the students would not survive. (He added there were)....too many of y'all to get rid of.....(and) he only had six bullets in his gun.
After an older student told a teacher about what Mitcham said, he apologized.
What Happened Following the Threats?
In addition to the older student telling a teacher at Downsville Community Charter School, a parent called the school to say that her child was scared along with other students. Officials say their investigation is ongoing.
