Louisiana State Police officials were called out to investigate a tragic crash in which one motorcycle clipped the back of another bike on Louisiana Highway 182, leading to the death of a man.

Trooper First Class Peggy Bourque with the Public Affairs Section of Louisiana State Police says the crash between the two motorcycles happened while 42-year-old Chad Rivet was riding behind 43-year-old Anthony Gambino III on Louisiana Highway 182.

How Did The Crash Happen?

Bourque says the preliminary investigation shows that Rivet's motorcycle collided with Gambino's bike while riding on the rear left side. As the investigation continues, she says they are still working to determine why Rivet's motorcycle hit the back of Gambino's bike.

As investigators were working the scene, they determined that both men were wearing helmets while riding, but that Gambino's was not properly secured. Bourque says Gambino's injuries were severe, and the man was pronounced dead at the scene by the coroner's office.

Rivet received moderate injuries in the crash, and he was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Bourque says, as is standard in fatality cases, routine toxicology samples were taken from both Rivet and Gambino for analysis at a lab.

Louisiana State Police officials want to remind drivers of the following:

  • Never let anything distract you while you are driving.
  • All drivers must obey all traffic laws of the roadway.
  • Make sure you are never impaired by any substance while driving.
  • Always make safe decisions when you get behind the wheel.

The investigation into this crash is ongoing. The crash happened at around 1 o'clock on the afternoon of Tuesday, March 4.
