DOTD announced that one lane of I-10 Eastbound will be open at I-49 as crews continue to assess damage to the overpass bridge.

According to the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development, the left lane of the Interstate 10 overpass at Interstate 49 (Evangeline Thruway) in Lafayette Parish will be open to traffic on Wednesday night (Jan. 4) once safety measures are in place.

The overpass bridge of I-10 Eastbound at I-49 has been closed to traffic since Tuesday afternoon (Jan. 3) after it was struck by an 18-wheeler carrying an excavator.

As DOTD crews continue their work to safely assess the impacts on the damaged overpass, the following closures will remain in place.

  • Interstate 10 eastbound overpass outside lane and deceleration/acceleration ramp
  • Inside lane of Interstate 49 northbound
  • I-49 northbound exit ramp from I-10 (Exit 1B)
  • I-10 eastbound on-ramp from I-49 (Exit 1A)

DOTD announced that there will also be a 12-foot width restriction for vehicles traveling in the one open lane of I-10 eastbound at I-49.

Motorists are encouraged to use alternate routes along I-10 eastbound prior to U.S. 165, La. 26, La. 13, and La. 182.
