Powerball Confirms $100,000 win in Louisiana on Saturday
Perhaps the only thing hotter than Louisiana's weather is Louisiana's luck when it comes to lottery games. The recent weeks have seen Louisiana's lottery crowd collecting some big money payouts. Saturday's Powerball game was no exception as a ticket sold in Louisiana took one of the larger prizes awarded by the game for the drawing on Saturday, August 19, 2023.
Speaking of that drawing, here is how it unfolded:
When the ping pong balls dropped last Saturday night the Powerball jackpot was estimated to be $274,700,000. Now, if you couldn't see the video, here's the way the numbers dropped.

The Powerball Lottery says no tickets sold across the game's footprint matched the numbers needed to claim the top prize. Nor were there any tickets sold for Saturday's game that earned Match 5 prizes either. So, the Louisiana ticket of $100,000 is one of this week's biggest prizes in Powerball.
The Texas Lottery also confirmed a ticket sold there also earned a prize of $100,000. The Texas Lottery also confirmed there were two $50,000 winners sold for Saturday's game as well. The Texas Lottery doesn't publish point-of-purchase information on prizes of less than $1,000,000, but the Louisiana Lottery does.
Where Was Louisiana's Powerball Winner Sold?
According to the Louisiana Lottery, the $100,000 winner matched four of the five white ball numbers and the Powerball. By rule, that is a $50,000 prize. However, the ticket's purchaser opted-in for the Power Play which for Saturday's game was x2 for a total prize of $100,000.
That big-money winner was sold in Jonesboro, Louisiana. The retailer was Circle K located on the Old Winnfield Highway. Jonesboro, if you're not familiar, is the Parish Seat for Jackson Parish and the town's population was listed at just over 4,000 residents. Perhaps one of those residents is a few thousand dollars better off this morning.
While it's fun to write and read about big wins in the lottery the reality is most tickets do not produce a profit. Only spend what you can afford to lose on lottery games or any game of chance.
