Pepsi Cancels 9 Soda Flavors – Louisiana Favorites Included
(KMDL-FM) When the summer sun is beating down on you in a merciless fashion, as it has been known to do here in South Louisiana, an ice-cold soft drink can be a blessing. Granted, your health care professionals would say you'd be smarter to be drinking water, but still, refreshment is refreshment, and hydration will be important today from Lake Charles to Lafayette, to Baton Rouge, and on across I-10 to New Orleans.
When it comes to soft drink refreshment across Louisiana and across the nation, most of us reach for a Coke when given the choice of what soda pop we'd like to drink. The number two choice behind Coke is Dr. Pepper. The third choice in soft drinks is Sprite, followed by number four, which is Pepsi, and rounding out the top five is Diet Coke. Most of you are aware that Coke and Pepsi might be the two major "players" in the soft drink wars, but those brands are actually a part of many brands controlled by their parent companies. The folks at Pepsico not only bring you Pepsi, but also Mountain Dew, Lipton Tea, Gatorade, Aquafina, and you get the idea.
The Coca-Cola family includes Sprite, Fanta, VitaminWater, Dasani, Minute Maid juices, and a range of other beverages. But the company we are focusing on for this article is Pepsico. They have announced via a press release that they are discontinuing nine soda flavors. And they are also ending production of 12 other sparkling waters, Gatorade, and energy drinks.
Which Sodas are Being Cancelled By Pepsi?
Here are the flavors that are being cancelled. They are all flavors of Mtn Dew.
Mtn Dew Caffeine Free, Mtn Dew White Out, Mtn Dew Kickstart: Mango Lime, Mtn Dew Kickstart: Original Dew, Mtn Dew Kickstart: Blueberry Pomegranate, Mtn Dew Major Melon, Mtn Dew Zero Sugar Major Melon, Mtn Dew Spark, Mtn Dew Zero Sugar Spark.
And if you're wondering about is it "Mountain" or "MTN" Dew, the answer is "yes". Both are accepted monikers for the brand. However, in late 2024, the brand did opt to return to the full name of Mountain Dew following a brief foray into the "MTN" Dew name.

Lemon Bubly, Apple Bubly, Cranberry Bubly, Bubly Bounce Citrus Cherry, Bubly Bounce Mango Passion Fruit, Bubly Bounce Triple Berry Gatorade Fit: Cherry Lime Gatorade Fit: Tangerine Orange Gatorade Zero with Protein Grape Gatorade Zero with Protein Fruit Punch Gatorade Zero with Protein Cool Blue Gatorade Zero with Protein Glacier Cherry.
The company says it is narrowing its focus and cutting back on flavors that haven't sold well. The company plans on working to improve its colas, saying the colas have done very well and they feel there is room for growth in that sector of the marketplace, especially in the low and no-sugar colas.
