A large portion of South Louisiana experienced strong storms and heavy rains yesterday and it looks as if we are setting up for a repeat of that forecast again today. While there were no severe weather watches or warnings issued over a wide area for yesterday's storms there was enough rowdy weather to cause some damage.

In Calcasieu Parish, a storm that blew up yesterday afternoon actually destroyed a metal barn. The owners of the barn said the structure had been replaced after damage from Hurricane Laura but winds during yesterday's passing storms not only dismantled the structure but spread pieces of it throughout the property where it was located.

The Storm Prediction Center is forecasting another day possibly strong storms, some of which could reach severe limits during the afternoon hours. The SPC says the risk of severe is "marginal". And that marginal threat covers a large portion of the western half of the state.

The graphic above from the Storm Prediction Center gives you a bird's eye view of where the worst of the weather might be expected. The National Weather Service Forecast Office in Lake Charles is forecasting rain probabilities today to be 40%. Now, do you know what a "40% chance of rain" really means?

Now that you understand what forecasters are actually attempting to tell you in their forecasts we can tell you that the best chance of rain during the day today will come after 1 pm. Here's what Bradley Benoit of KATC Television and the HRRR Model is forecasting for South Louisiana later this afternoon.

A threat of showers will linger into the nighttime hours. Thursday the rain chances will be slightly elevated according to the NWS. Those elevated rain chances will stay with us during the day Thursday and into Thursday evening.

For Friday and the weekend, it looks as if we'll have a return to an almost summerlike forecast with partly cloudy skies and a chance of showers or thunderstorms in the afternoon.
