(KMDL-FM) Ever since the first Beaver Nugget popped its way into being, there has been a love affair with the Buc-ee's brand travel centers. The chain that started decades ago as a small convenience store has grown into an empire that has set the standards in what public restrooms are all about.

Louisiana does not have its own Buc-ee's yet. There are currently two locations in the works. One is on I-20 near Ruston, Louisiana. The other is located on I-10 very near Lafayette, Louisiana, and the interchange between I-10 and I-49.

That meant that for the past year or so, Louisiana fans of "The Beaver" have been focusing their attention on Harrison County and the location of Buc-ee's that finally opened on June 9th. Much to the surprise of everyone, that store opened without a monster traffic jam. I must say, I was impressed.

Why Was Buc-ee's Closed and Barricaded by Police?

Fast forward a month and a few days from the grand opening, and then all of a sudden, social media feeds start blowing up with status updates like this.

And then there was this. All happening on a Sunday morning during the peak travel time between Louisiana and the beaches of Alabama and Florida. What was going on?

As you might imagine, a travel center that has a reputation for being open 24 hours a day and seven days a week suddenly closing did catch the attention of many. Some had even planned a Sunday morning sojourn to the Harrison County location just to get snacks and barbecue.

From what we've been able to piece together from media outlets along the Mississippi Gulf Coast, there must have been some kind of medical emergency or issue in or near the store. According to reports, Harrison County EMS did respond to a call from the Buc-ee's location during the period of time the store was closed.

Buc-ee's has not released a statement on the issue or the incident or whatever the reason was for their brief closure. If you are a fan of the world-renowned travel center, you will be pleased to know that the store reopened just a few hours after it was closed and barricaded from the public.

Based on available information, the closure was brief in nature and unplanned and is not expected to be a regular occurrence at the Harrison County, Mississippi, location of Buc-ee's.
