Louisiana Stanley Tumbler Owners Concerned Over Lead in Their Cups
Stanley tumblers are one of the most popular items in America these days. But, some customers are becoming concerned about the use of lead in the products.
According to a report in USA Today, the company that manufactures the tumblers has recently been hit with several class action lawsuits filed in U.S. District Court in Washington state.
The proposed lawsuits come weeks after Stanley confirmed that the "sealing material" they use to secure the vacuum insulation at the base of their products does in fact contain "some lead."
However, the company said that the presence of lead will not harm consumers.
“Please rest assured that no lead is present on the surface of any Stanley product that comes in contact with you or the contents of your container. Every Stanley product meets all U.S. regulatory requirements, including California Proposition 65, which requires businesses to provide warnings to Californians about heavy metal and chemical exposure,” the company said in a release.
The lawsuits, however, claim that the brand failed to disclose that its products contain lead.
The controversy started on social media as customers used at-home lead tests to see if their Stanley cups contained lead. And it turned out that they do.
Again, Stanley said it's nothing for consumers to worry about. They said it is common practice for vacuum-insulated water bottles to contain a lead pellet that seals the vacuum insulation at the base.
Stanley further said the liquid inside their cups cannot come into contact with the lead pellet because it is covered by a durable layer of stainless steel.
According to its website, Stanley says all its products are FDA-tested and approved.
