(Baton Rouge, LA) The state of Louisiana would really find itself in a budget crisis if it had to pay for the ink that the Louisiana Lottery uses to write winners' checks every day. Fortunately, most prizes won by lottery players in the state don't require a check; the winnings can be collected in cash directly from a lottery retailer.

But if we, the State of Louisiana, had to write a check for every prize won just in last night's Powerball drawing, we'd need enough ink to cover printing almost 14,000 winning checks. That's how many Louisiana players got a "kiss" from Lady Luck in Wednesday's Powerball.

The reason for all the wins? There were a lot more people playing. Powerball's jackpot on Wednesday was $861.2 million. That's the sixth-largest jackpot in the history of the game. So, needless to say, that amount attracted a lot of attention from lottery players who don't normally play the lottery.

How Much Was the Powerball Jackpot on Wednesday Night?

Here is how the drawing unfolded for Wednesday night, August 27, 2025.

Our inside sources at Powerball revealed that no tickets sold across the game's footprint matched the numbers needed to claim the game's jackpot prize. So the prize will be growing to an estimated $950 million or more when they draw again on Saturday night.

There were six Match 5 Million prizes awarded in Wednesday's drawing. Three of them included the Power Play option, the other three did not. The tickets with the extra money were sold in Mississippi, Ohio, and Virginia; those tickets earned $2 million. The one-million-dollar winners were sold in Virginia, Arizona, and New York.

The Louisiana Lottery says 9,451 tickets sold in the state for Wednesday's Powerball game were winners. 4,518 of those winning tickets had their money multiplied thanks to the Power Play option in the game. Here are the numbers from Wednesday if you'd like to check yours.

If you see some matching numbers on your ticket and on the screen, you will want to go verify your ticket at the Official Louisiana Lottery website. You can input multiple ticket numbers, verify your prize, and confirm prize pickup details all in one spot.

Despite the huge volume of winning tickets sold, there were no "huge wins" for Louisiana tickets in Wednesday's Powerball drawing. The largest single prize we've discovered was $400. There were 24 tickets sold in Louisiana that earned that prize. Another 36 tickets earned a prize of $100.

How Much Was the Lotto Jackpot in Louisiana on Wednesday?

In the Lotto Game from the Louisiana Lottery on Wednesday, the jackpot amount was estimated to be $1.875 million. There was no jackpot winner, but ten tickets sold for Lotto earned their purchasers a prize of $1,000.

The other Wednesday draw game in Louisiana is Easy 5. That game was played for a jackpot prize of $80,000. There was no jackpot winner. This means that all of Louisiana's favorite draw games will have an increase in their jackpot prizes for Saturday night's drawings.

How Much is the Powerball Worth Now? What About Mega Millions?

Your next chance at instant millions is with the Mega Millions game on Friday night. That jackpot prize is estimated to be $277 million. Powerball will jump to at least $950 million on Saturday. I personally think it will top $1 billion for Saturday's drawing, but we'll have to wait and see.

Lotto from the Louisiana Lottery will draw for $1.975 million on Saturday night, and the Easy 5 jackpot is expected to grow to $100,000 by the time the drawing rolls around this weekend.
