Did the NFL and WWE Snub the New Orleans Saints?
In Louisiana, we love our New Orleans Saints. Most of us have been with the Black and Gold since they first started playing football in the Big Easy in the late 1960s. We've certainly had our share of not-so-good times. But then again, ever since the turn of the century the Saints haven't been the laughing stock they were for much of the 80s and early 90s.
Another sport that Louisiana action fans tend to gravitate toward is wrestling. Yeah, the big-time showbiz style of WWE Wrestling in particular. The state has hosted Wrestlemania events in the past and almost every year the WWE Tour makes a stop in places like Lafayette, Shreveport, Baton Rouge, and New Orleans for live television events or tape-delayed specials.
So you'd think a partnership between the NFL and the WWE would certainly include some New Orleans Saints-themed gear. Well, apparently, it doesn't. You see, the NFL and WWE recently announced a marketing agreement in which Fanatics would sell exclusive WWE Championship Belts inspired by NFL teams. They look pretty cool. Here is the one for the Cincinnati Bengals.
I am sure you've seen NFL stars and NFL teams brandish similar belts since the WWE has made the belts for gifts to specific teams and players but now the general public can get their own version of the championship belt in their team's colors.
Well, most fans of most teams can get one of those belts. For some reason, I can't find a belt for the Saints, the Panthers, or the Green Bay Packers on the site. Maybe those franchises have different deals with other wrestling groups or maybe the Saints got snubbed like they used to get snubbed in the Sears catalog back when I was a kid.
If you're of a certain age, you remember. Trust me, you remember.
Now, I bet you're wondering how much such a WWE/NFL belt would set you back. Well, you can order the belt of your choice from the Fanatics site for just $549.00. According to the Fanatics site belts for the Colts, Falcons, Texans, Chargers, Rams, and Titans are almost sold out. For the life of me, I don't know why either.
Hold on, after further review we did locate the Saints WWE Legacy belt but it wasn't on the Fanatics website. We found it on the WWE Shopping site. It's still the same belt as you'll find on the other website but now you know where to go find it. And still, are we not good enough for the front page?
The Saints officially open play in the 2023 Season on Sunday, September 10th against the Tennessee Titans.
