Some customers may have been affected by both data breaches, but it doesn't matter if you were affected by both or just one; you may be eligible for significant compensation as part of the announced settlement with AT&T.

The first data breach in question happened back in 2019. AT&T found that about 7.6 million current and about 65.4 million former AT&T account holders had their data exposed. Among the sensitive items that were allegedly made available to hackers were social security numbers, full names, and dates of birth.

When Did AT&T Suffer Data Breaches That Exposed Customer Information?

The second data breach was reported back in 2024. This breach came at the hands of a hacker who managed to break into AT&T's cloud storage provider, Snowflake. It is believed that the breach exposed call and text records for almost all of the 109 million subscribers in the United States.

In this case, AT&T confirmed that no names were attached to the exposed data. Two people were arrested and charged with the crime.

The amount of compensation you could be awarded via this settlement action depends on how damaged you were by the breach. Those who can prove they were harmed by the unauthorized release of information could be eligible for up to $5,000 in the first breach. They might also be awarded an additional $2,500 if they can prove damage from the second breach as well.

Can You Still Make a Claim Against AT&T Without Proof of Damage?

Those who opted to file a claim but without proof of damages or harm will receive a share of what is leftover of the $177 million settlement after the confirmed damage claims have been paid out. AT&T expects to be paying out claims in early 2026. The deadline to submit any damage claims is November 18th.

Incidentally, if you are not sure if you were affected by either of these data breaches, you can reach out to AT&T for clarification. The company will also send out emails to customers in the next month or so. The claims process is expected to begin on August 4, 2025, officially.
