Sean Payton Gets Emotional After Drew Brees Asks Him to Be Part of Hall of Fame Induction
(New Orleans, Louisiana) - Former New Orleans Saints Coach Sean Payton couldn't hold back the tears after his former quarterback, Drew Brees, asked him to present him during the upcoming NFL Hall of Fame ceremonies.
Brees and Payton came to New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina, and many across the state of Louisiana credit the two for helping rebuild the city after the devastating storm flooded it.
Shortly after their arrival in New Orleans, the two led the Saints organization to its first Super Bowl game, and they won it in 2010 when they defeated the Indianapolis Colts 31-17.
Years later, the two men have gone their separate ways as Drew is retired and living in the San Diego area, while Sean Payton continues to coach in Denver.
Still, in between the many miles that they may be apart, Brees and Payton remain very close and great friends.
Last year, Drew Brees was eligible for the NFL Hall of Fame, and he was voted in on the first ballot. There truly was no doubt that Drew would get voted into the Hall of Fame on his first try, but the only question was, who would present him on the night he gets that gold jacket?
Well, now we know, and that's his former Saints coach, Sean Payton. While miles apart, Drew called Sean Payton to ask if he would present him in Canton, Ohio, on August 8, 2026, and Payton could not hold back his emotions.
You see Drew on the phone with his former coach, and without any hesitation, Sean Payton said he'd be there for his former quarterback in just a few short days.

Whether you're a Saints fan or not, you have to admit that this is special and emotional. It's like the two have won another Super Bowl, which may have had one referee throw a flag, but we won't get into that now.
The NFL Hall of Fame enshrinement ceremony takes place at noon on Saturday, August 8th.
Now, let's take a look back at a few photos of Drew and Sean while together in New Orleans. What a tag team they were in the NFC South and across the league.
