Beyond The Grave: People Using AI To Create New Buddy Holly Songs
We are moving quickly into a whole new world with Artificial Intelligence and the different ways it can be used.
In the entertainment industry, particularly in the music industry, we have already seen how AI can be used to bring back a voice. As the Associated Press reported earlier in May, Randy Travis was able to use AI technology to put out a new song years after a stroke and a condition called aphasia left him with a limited ability to speak. Yet with artificial intelligence, he is able to sing again. The technology isn't perfect, but its amazing where it's at now and where it could be in the years to come.
Which brings us to Buddy Holly. Holly died in 1959 but for decades his music has inspired so many artists. So could someone use AI technology to either remix Buddy Holly music to to have Buddy Holly sing cover songs? It's already being done.
A quick YouTube search brought me to two different videos. One was of an 1950's recording being "remixed" and cleared up with AI technology.
The second video shows AI technology boosting Holly's vocals in one song and totally fabricating them in other. And the results are actually pretty amazing.
Of course, people aren't just taking to YouTube to come up with Buddy Holly AI covers. There are AI Frank Sinatra, Michael Jackson, and more videos popping up each day. Which on one hand may be very cool, but also presents some ethical and legal issues.
