Humane Society of Louisiana’s “Be Kind to Animals 30-Day Challenge”

The Humane Society of Louisiana is challenging you to perform at least one act of kindness to animals over the next 30 days. This is the first year for the "Be Kind To Animals 30-Day Challenge," and it comes at a crucial time as Louisiana struggles with pet overpopulation, strays, and limited shelter resources.

Founder and Director Jeff Dorson wants to help get you started. "You can go to your local shelter, walk a dog, socialize the cats, give a donation. Anything, to just express yourself, and it makes you feel good," he says. Dorson believes that simple acts can have a big impact. "What's wrong with kindness? It's just a wonderful opportunity for us to show our humanity to our fellow creatures."

He's also taking part, with plans to post videos on social media to inspire others. "We're going to do one act every single day for the next 30 days, with the intention of spreading and asking other people to do the same thing." You're encouraged to do the same by sharing a video of your act of kindness on social media.

If you're 18 or older, you can volunteer with their shelter dogs, help with administrative tasks, or assist at fundraising events, like the upcoming Black Dog October, dog washes, or bingo events held throughout the year.

Another great way to help is to donate, whether it's a monetary donation or an item from their wish list, such as pet food, cleaning supplies, or blankets. The shelter is also always in need of foster families to provide temporary homes for animals in need.
