SWLA Weekend Forecast: Storm Chances Could Change Your Plans
Now, everyone, welcome back to another Cajun Weekend Weather Report!
It appears that Mother Nature will keep us vigilant once more this weekend.
You are already familiar with the routine if you have lived in Southwest Louisiana for more than five minutes. Your truck's hood will be hot enough to cook an egg, but then a rainstorm suddenly passes through for a brief period of time, causing everything to steam like a pot of crawfish.
That's essentially the narrative for this weekend, according to the Weather Channel.
Every day, there will be a lot of heat, humidity, and sporadic thunderstorms. Thus, keep one eye on the sky and the other on your weather app instead of canceling your plans.
Weekend Forecast in Southwest Louisiana
Friday
Friday kicks things off with a high around 92 degrees and about a 40% chance of afternoon showers and thunderstorms. The morning should be pretty nice by July standards, but once the afternoon rolls around, don't be surprised if you hear a few rumbles of thunder. These look like your typical Louisiana pop-up storms. They'll dump a quick shower, cool things off for about ten minutes, then disappear and leave behind humidity that'll make your glasses fog up the second you step outside.
If you're headed to football practice, the lake, or firing up the grill Friday evening, keep an umbrella nearby just in case.

Saturday
Saturday brings the highest rain chances of the weekend.
Look for a high around 93 degrees with about a 50% chance of scattered thunderstorms, especially during the morning before skies become partly cloudy later in the day. That means your morning fishing trip or youth ball tournament could get interrupted by a quick shower. The good news? These don't look like all-day rainmakers. Once they move through, it'll be back to sunshine... and back to sweating. You'll probably hear somebody say, "Well at least it cooled things off."
Yeah... for about seven minutes.
Sunday
Sunday is shaping up to be the coolest day of the weekend... if you can call 89 degrees cool. We'll still have about a 40% chance of scattered thunderstorms, with a mix of sun and clouds throughout the day. If you're wrapping up the weekend with a cookout, a trip to the pool, or just relaxing outside, you'll still want to keep an eye on the radar. One of those afternoon storms could pop up almost anywhere. That's just August arriving fashionably late.
So here's your official Cajun Weekend Weather Report game plan...
Friday: Hot with a few afternoon storms.
Saturday: Best chance of rain, but plenty of sunshine mixed in.
Sunday: Slightly cooler with scattered storms hanging around.
The bottom line? Keep the cooler packed. Throw an umbrella in the truck. Don't leave home without sunscreen because the UV index is still in the Extreme category all weekend. And remember... just because it's raining at your house doesn't mean it's raining two miles down the road.
That's how we do summer in Southwest Louisiana. That's your Cajun Weekend Weather Report. We ain't just telling you what the weather's doing... we're helping y'all survive another Southwest Louisiana summer one weekend at a time. Y'all have a great weekend, stay safe, stay hydrated, and I'll see y'all next Wednesday with another Cajun Weekend Weather Report!
