Buying good and nutritious food for ourselves and our children may not always be a top concern in your household, but it is for some in Texas. However, experts are warning customers that one item in their refrigerator may be causing more damage than good. Texans are being asked to throw it away immediately.

Some chain retailers across America and Texas have recently announced recalls due to cheese in some products causing Listeria. But another type of cheese is causing an E. coli outbreak across the United States according to the CDC.

WHAT IS E. COLI?

Escherichia coli (E. coli) is a bacteria typically found in warm-blooded organisms' lower intestines. Most E. coli strains are harmless, but a few can cause severe food poisoning.

According to the World Health Organization, to prevent infection, control measures must be implemented at all stages of the food chain, from agricultural production on the farm to food processing, manufacture, and preparation in both commercial enterprises and private kitchens.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE FOOD BEING RECALLED IN TEXAS

According to the CDC, the recent E. coli outbreak is related to RAW FARM's raw cheddar cheese. Raw cheese is made from milk that has not been pasteurized, which means it hasn't been heated to remove microorganisms. It has a higher chance of having harmful viruses such as E. coli than pasteurized cheese. The bacteria can cause abdominal pain, vomiting, diarrhea, and, in severe cases, kidney failure or death.

Businesses are being advised not to sell RAW FARM cheese. Anyone who purchased the raw cheddar cheese is advised not to eat it and to discard it or return it to the store.
