Locals Share Speed Trap Hotspots in Louisiana
Lake Charles, La [KNGT-FM] - Driving is just something we have to do every day across Louisiana. Whether it’s the daily commute, shuttling kids to school, visiting loved ones, or simply taking a peaceful drive down a scenic back road, time behind the wheel is something most residents know well.
In Southwest Louisiana, especially, many drivers prefer smaller highways and rural routes over busy interstates. These roads often pass through tight-knit towns and quiet communities, offering a slower pace and local charm. But those same roads can also bring an unexpected challenge that plenty of drivers know all too well: sudden changes in speed limits.

It’s a familiar situation for many motorists. One minute you’re traveling at highway speed, and the next, the posted limit drops dramatically within a short stretch of road. If you’re not paying close attention, that change can catch you off guard and sometimes result in an expensive reminder from local law enforcement. Most drivers can probably name a town or two where they instinctively ease off the gas because they know police often monitor those areas closely.
To find out which places stand out the most, we asked people across Southwest Louisiana a simple question on Facebook: What’s that one town in Louisiana that always has a speed trap?
The response was overwhelming. More than 200 comments poured in, with residents sharing their firsthand experiences and warning fellow drivers about locations known for strict speed enforcement.
